WHEN THE COCK CROWS

WHEN THE COCK CROWS

The first time I heard it I was slightly taken aback. I mean, what’s a kid from a New Jersey city know about roosters for goodness sake.

Cock a doodle doo, went the rooster.

In fact I heard him crow at least three times if my numbers are right.

I never was one for my maths but this seemed easy enough.

After all the rooster only crowed three times as it was and not three hundred or even three thousand times dear sirs.

But why was this different?

What made this so special?

This rooster crowing transcends time you know. Centuries ago, in another land, a foreign soil, one drenched with the day’s sun, and red rivers of blood to dampen the mood of mankind forever more.

The cock – why it seemed to waken all around, even the dead were alarmed or so it appeared.

An unholy alliance between flesh and blood, and the cock crowed through it all to share, “it is done, it is done.”

Why heed the call from a silly rooster I thought. What matter does it make that this mindless creature beckons to us all, with its strutting and jousting in the yard, filled with plumes of the aftermath of man’s struggle with darkness, leading only to the fall and it’s deepening gloom.

Oh matters not you say that a promise has been broken, betrayal of one kind or another, and this one was spoken.

Surrender the truth from your lips this day, three times the cock crowed, three times you say.

For was it not foretold by the Master Himself; oh Peter, dear Peter, you meant well my beloved, but this day was rendered unto darkness from the beginning of time, surely the Prince must have his way.

Did I not say, you will have denied me not once, nor twice but three times you repeat …

“I do not know Him.”

And the cock will crow three times already, three times with the rising of the sun.

Though I love you still most certainly dear friend, prophecy is fulfilled yet again and again.

You admonish yourself as you slink sadly away,

I have failed, how could I have failed the teacher this way.

I am weak Adonai, like a child with fear.

I have denied the One that I hold most dear.

So Peter knew from that day on, that man is destined for defeat and decay and finally death alone.

No cock will crow to acknowledge the time, all will know in a preternatural way, death is at your door sir – come this way yes, come this way …

Matthew 26: 74 + 75

“Then he began to curse and swear, saying, “I do not know the Man!” Immediately a rooster crowed.

And Peter remembered the word of Jesus who had said to him, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” So he went out and wept bitterly.”
